2003 Mustang Cobra
Owner: Nino Avila
Engine: 4.6L Supercharged V8 DOHC
Transmission: T56 6-spd manual
PCM: OEM EEC-5
Services Performed: Engine rebuilt, including installation of aftermarket internals, full SCT tune.
Thanks to a 6th-gear dyno pull, we needed to have the 4.6L block re-honed before we could replace the stock pistons with aftermarket pieces. After an evaluation of the block, the machinest decided that all the cylinders should be bored out .020 over since there was also play with the ones that weren't scorched. The build continued as new parts came in, and we were able to finish in time for the annual Spike's & STMC's Mutang Round-up, netting this Cobra first place in its class.
Parts installed:
- JE forged pistons & rings
- Liberty 26-spline hardened input-shaft
- Spec Stage 2+ clutch
- Autometer 5" Tach, A/F, Water Temp & Oil Pressure gauges
- Canton aluminum intercooler reservoir
1994 Mustang GT
Owner: Paul Garcia
Engine: 5.0L V8 OHV
Transmission: TR3550 5-spd manual
PCM: OEM EEC-4
Services Performed: Head gaskets and misc. sensors replaced, resurfaced heads, re-assembly of engine.
After it's post-engine-swap maiden run, this car lost compression in 7 of 8 pistons--a new set of ARP head bolts and head gaskets fixed the problem. Several electrical sensors also needed replacing, and after a couple days at the shop, this GT was back on the road--reliable as stock.
2001 F-150 - FrankenLightning
Owner: Pete Acevedo
Engine: 5.4L Supercharged V8 SOHC
Services Performed: Complete Drivetrain & EEC swap from wrecked Ford Lightning
When ASE Master Technician Pete Acevedo had a chance at swapping in a Lightning drivetrain into his daily-driven F-150, he, without a doubt, went for it! Now this shop truck can hold its own on the street and strip, and driving to work was never as much fun. Though he and Juan had to tear both trucks down to get at all the wiring and vitals, the results were well worth the effort.
